DEVELOPING YOUR CREATIVE EDGE in TUCSON 2006
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and half-day Sunday, March 23-26, 2006We're taking our "Developing Your Creative Edge" concept on the road, and this time it's in Tucson, Arizona in March of 2006. We'll be photographing:
- Color, form, and texture in the Barrio district
- Exquisite light and shadow, architectural detail at Mission San Xavier del Bac
- Wildflowers, cactus, and sunset into twilight at Saguaro National Park
- Roadrunners, prairie dogs, coyotes and cactus wrens at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
- Incredible colors, light and shadow, lines and curves at La Placita
- Warm adobe walls, striking architecture, clay pots and more at Tumacacori Mission
- And bold, colorful shots of beautifully preserved airplanes at the Pima Air Museum
Prior to our workshop you'll receive three different tutorials:
- Blind Them With Brilliance: Photographing Extreme Colors
- It's All in the Details: Studies in Architecture
- Watch the Birdie: Photographing Animals
Throughout the course of our workshop, we'll be keeping these tutorials in mind as we move from place to place. Each tutorial comes with a set of assignments, so there's a method to our photographing madness throughout the workshop. And since we'll all be seeing similar things with similar goals in mind but with completely different eyes and styles, what we all come up with at the end of the trip will be quite illuminating.
I've set up an online group where, prior to our workshop, we can introduce one another, perhaps arrange in advance for carpooling, sharing of accommodations, ask and answer questions, etc. Once you've registered for the trip, I'll send you the group Internet address so that you can access all the information you'll need and can participate in our pre-workshop discussions. Naturally, you'll receive all this information in the mail as well, so if you don't have Internet access, you won't be left out of the mix.
Registration fee: $525 per person; a $200 deposit reserves your spot; balance due 60 days prior to the workshop date. Your registration fee includes instruction prior to the workshop in the form of tutorials, instruction throughout the workshop, as well as a follow-up critique after the workshop is over. In addition, it includes a group dinner during the course of the workshop. Transportation, admission fees, and accommodations are not included. Reasonably priced motel recommendations will be sent to you upon registration. Limited to 8 photographers. To register, call Carol Leigh at (800) 497-4686. This class is not yet included in our online store.
DEVELOPING YOUR CREATIVE EDGE in the SKAGIT VALLEY 2006
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and half-day Thursday, April 10-13, 2006Another "Developing Your Creative Edge" workshop on the road, and this time it's to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Washington, about 60 miles north of Seattle. We'll be photographing:
- Masses of color in the tulip fields
- Barns and other interesting architecture
- Farmers' markets, alpaca and llama farms, display gardens, bulb farms and nurseries
- Indoor photography, too, with an emphasis on macro and close-up photography
- In addition, I'll reserve a conference room at our motel where I'll have macro racks, fabrics, various props, and lots of tulips so that we can do some set-ups, some macro photography, some hands-on close-up photography. No one leaves without taking at least one wonderful tulip photo!
Prior to our workshop you'll receive three different tutorials:
- Filling Your Frame: Macro and Close-up Photography
- Going for the Bold: Using Color to Make a Statement
- Back to Square One: Using Geometrical Shapes for Design and Impact
Throughout the course of our workshop, we'll be keeping these tutorials in mind as we move from place to place. Who We Are
"We" consists of me (Carol Leigh) and my husband
Chris Smith. I've been shooting since
around 1978 and have had my pictures published over the years as
greeting cards, in magazines, on plaques, brochures, and school
notebook covers. I write guidebooks for photographers, publish California
Photographer newsletter, and have been leading photo tours
since the early '80s. Chris and I met in 1985 and he's been
working with me ever since. We're both friendly, enthusiastic,
outgoing, visually oriented, and work hard to make sure that
everyone in our group receives personalized attention. For photos
